Gingi Allen- owner of The Art of Mothering,
Birth Doula & Postpartum Healing Specialist,
Certified Professional Midwife, Licensed Midwife

My love for midwifery care began about 16years ago after I took my first childbirth education course.  As a fresh undergraduate in Environmental Planning, Sociology & History, I was able to connect my knowledge of healthy environmental practices with the impact that birth health has on the whole of society.  It was after the birth of my first child in 2002 that I saw everything birth and was called to support the mama-baby unit and healing of empowering women & families.

Soon I became an educator, supporting hundreds of families in their choices around a healthy pregnancy, empowered birth, and nourished postpartum, as well as womb wellness.  Along the way, I studied many holistic healing and midwifery techniques and now have integrated them well into my doula & midwifery practice.  During my midwifery schooling and training, I chose to extend my program to get the fullest out of my training (at home birth and birth centers), while raising my two sons as a single mother.  My road in birth work and midwifery was raw, challenging, and beautiful much like the work of being a mother.  It is an honor to support new life into this world and I look forward to developing intimacy, trust, and a deep understanding with the families I support.

Lori Jaffe -
Postpartum Doula

The day I gave birth to my first baby the world became beautiful – my life went from black and white to Technicolor. Today when I work with clients, I believe it is my duty to help them discover the magnificence of their own birth process every step of the way.

As a DONA trained Birth and Postpartum Doula, I have facilitated individualized births in homes, birth centers and hospitals throughout San Francisco and the East Bay. I am equally at home, and can help you feel at home, in any of these settings. My clients will attest that I am calm, empathetic, supportive and highly skilled. I take great pride in instilling confidence in parents, and it is my joy to do so.

I have raised three children. I know the nuances of pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period. I have spent time in motherhood’s trenches, and what I have learned enriches my professional doula training. I am, therefore, doubly qualified to educate and empower women in their own journey into motherhood.

My doula practice also benefits from the comprehensive knowledge I gained as an administrator in the postpartum unit at Berkeley’s Alta Bates Hospital. My experience as a certified massage therapist also strengthens my practice. In addition, I’m committed to creating nutritious meals for my family, and I enjoy helping other parents do the same.

Birth Doula & Yoga Teacher

My interest in birth began with the first time I witnessed a home birth at the age of two. It was so peaceful that I fell asleep at the birth where my mother was the birth coach. After having 2 children and supporting a few friends and family with their birth experiences I completed my birth doula training through DONA (Doulas of North America) with Debbie Lavin in 2015. In 2016 I completed my abortion doula training with the Bay Area Doula Project (BADP). I truly believe in the intuitive powers that women posses. My goal is to support and empower women and their partners through all the different choices that are involved with reproduction.

As a yoga teacher I get to share my experience with the practice: one that connects all aspects of self – body, mind, and breath – and that by connecting to oneself on a deeper level we also connect to the world around us in a more true way. It is my belief that incorporating the elements of yoga into daily life in small ways, like taking the time to focus on breath for a moment or remembering posture, leads to a positive change in peoples lives. I also incorporate these practices into my doula work. My teaching style is encouraging, supportive, and honest, creating a space where you can get to know your body and expand its capabilities, a safe and grounded environment in which to grow and learn.
